Letter from the developer

Here is the resting ground of Tari’ak (طريقك), a software project started in 2014 by Rami Khawandi, accompanied by Steve Liles, and promoted by several members of the Lebanese entrepreneurial community. Before Google Maps started showing traffic conditions on the roads of Lebanon, Tari’ak was the simplest most accurate mobile app to learn about real-time traffic conditions.

Throughout the journey, we invented some awesome technology and gathered the largest traffic data set for Lebanon. Now that we have moved on, we would like to open up our data and share it with the public for free.

The entire data set, composed of over 6 million velocity data points gathered from over 17 thousand smartphones in a period of 5 years is available on Github, documentation included. This data is particularly interesting to researchers, transportation engineers, urban planners, or anyone with an appetite for big data sets.

The data is available under an ODC Open Database License (ODbL), which means you can use it freely for your personal or commercial projects as long as you attribute its source to tari2ak.com and keep your data open.

The mission has always been to use our skills to tackle and solve a problem around us, and we whole-heartedly support everyone who continues to do so in the world. We believe the ultimate purpose of technology is to elevate the human condition.

Special thanks to: Steve Liles, Elie Nasr, Ghady Rayyes, Grace Maroun, Aline Raad, Farah Naboulsi, Rami Moughabghab, Roland Abi Hanna, Samer Bou Saleh, Mohammad Moussa, Eliane Chatry, Habib Haddad, Dr. Bijan Azad, Dr. Aziz Barbar, Elie Abou Saleh, Najib Mitri, Wamda, Executive Magazine and Uber.

The Tari’ak app is no longer available for download.
